Infectious Diseases

If your child is diagnosed as having any of the following childhood infections, please ensure that the required period of exclusion from school is followed:

  • Measles - Minimum exclusion - 5 days from appearance of the rash.
  • Mumps - Exclude till fully recovered. Minimum exclusion is one week after the appearance of swelling.
  • Chicken Pox - Exclude five days after the first sports appear.
  • German Measles - Exclude until fully recovered. Maximum exclusion is necessary and is 6 days after the rash appears.
  • Impetigo - (School Sores) 5-21 days.
  • Ringworm - 10-14 days.
  • Scabies - Several days, sometimes even weeks.
  • Pediculosis - Until nits and lice have been removed.
NB: Pediculosis (Head lice is a relatively common occurrence whenever large groups of people gather and is not a reflection of lack of hygiene.) To keep outbreaks to a minimum, parents are requested to check their child’s hair regularly and to take appropriate action when necessary. Removal of nits from the strands of hair is time consuming but essential to ensure that reinfection does not occur. Parents will be informed when there is an outbreak at school.
